I know I've said it before but I RARELY (if ever) shop fast fashion. You'll find me in a consignment/vintage/thrift store before you'll find me in the H&M's of the world. I've always gravitated toward pieces that you won't be able to find anywhere else or more importantly on anyone else. Not to mention the affordability and sustainability of shopping in this space versus big box stores and fast fashion conglomerates. I mean what else can I really say to sell you on this shopping lifestyle (if you weren’t already sold)?! Because trust me, it‘s a lifestyle.
In an ideal world, I would recycle my clothes every season - shoutout to consignment stores for buying back gently used clothes - and use the proceeds to update my wardrobe quarterly. Speaking of, I recently did a massive closet cleanout, took my clothes to Rewind Trading Co. in the Fair Oaks Village (one of my local favorites featured below), and received a good chunk of change by way of store credit that I can use to buy a ton of new items (hello affordable prices). What more could you ask for?!
Fashion is and always has been one of my favorite ways of expressing myself and what better way to express myself than with an eye-catching, conversation starting piece? Many of those conversation pieces in my own closet were picked up from some of the resale boutiques you’ll learn more about in this blog post. Let’s get to the good stuff, shall we?
Best of Consignment
Location: 10127 Fair Oaks Blvd, Fair Oaks, CA 95628
Specialty: Affordable and unique apparel, accessories, gifts and more! Fashion Rewind opened its doors in 2020 and has quickly become one of my favorite shopping destinations in the Sacramento area. It is rare that I walk into this shop and walk out empty handed. The owner, Carrie, has such a great eye and her pieces are incredibly affordable as well. She also features local artists in her shop offering great gift ideas and accessories. There truly is something for everyone at Fashion Rewind!
Location: 11787 Fair Oaks Blvd, Fair Oaks, CA 95628
Specialty: Purses! At any given time there are a dozen purses lining the walls of Moth Hole that I want to get my hands on. This shop offers consigned and newer items for a variety of ages and styles. Make sure you follow them on Instagram to stay up-to-date with all their new items including their newest addition, their gifting table, perfect for any season!
Location: 5271 Sunrise Blvd, Fair Oaks, CA 95628 (there are multiple locations but this is the best, in my opinion.)
Specialty: On-trend clothing and accessories. Like Moth Hole, FreeStyle offers both consigned and new items at affordable prices. Their merchandising is also incredible and always gives me ideas for outfits and trends I’d like to try. Give them a follow on Instagram and you can even purchase items directly from their Depop account.
Location: 2362 Fair Oaks Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95825
Specialty: Unique designer items. While Renaissance definitely skews toward an older crowd and I've never purchased anything from this destination, it's merely because my pocketbook won't allow it. If you're in the market for a new designer purse, dress, jacket, etc. Renaissance is your one-stop shop.
Location: 706 56th St Ste 100, Sacramento, CA 95819
Specialty: Something for everyone! Article Consignment has two shopfronts in the same shopping center one that specializes in designer clothing and accessories and the other offering a wider assortment of women's AND men's apparel and footwear. In my humble opinion, Article has the best selection of designer bags and accessories. I always have my eye on something in their glass case.
Location: 1300 E Bidwell St, Folsom, CA 95630
Specialty: On trend items for all ages! My mom and I visited ReLoveIt for the first time during the holidays and were incredibly impressed with the selection of apparel and accessories. It has a similar feel to a CrossRoads, Buffalo Exchange or Freestyle but not as overwhelming as the space is significantly smaller. My only wish is that I would have discovered this destination sooner!
Location: 2751 Fulton Ave, Sacramento, CA 95821 Specialty: Closet staples at mind-bogglingly LOW prices! I recently visited The Assistance League (or Fab Finds on Fulton) and was blown away by the selection. Their pieces are incredible classics for any woman’s wardrobe and the price tags are guaranteed to leave your jaw on the floor. I had such a tremendous haul on my first visit and I don’t even know if I spent $100. This one is a must visit!
Location: San Juan Plaza Shopping Center, 7305 Greenback Ln, Citrus Heights, CA 95621
Specialty: A true thrift store experience. Eco Thrift is not for the faint of heart but if you’re someone like me who thrives off a good treasure hunt, this is the place for you. I mean if you thought prices at The Assistance League were good, just WAIT! My mom and I did some serious damage around the holidays when we visited Eco Thrift for the first time in a while and when I say damage I mean like four bags full of clothes (if not more!) for less than $100. Word to the wise, only visit if you’re prepared to do some serious digging!
Whether you love consignment shopping like I do, or perhaps you've never experienced it before, hopefully this post gave you some new shopping ideas and destinations. 75%, if not, more, of my closet is from some of the consignment stores featured in this post so I know you can find some incredible pieces for your own closet.
