The 2020 Gift Guide for the Creative in Your Life
A Brand New Notebook
It's the little things - remember? Considering writing is a daily part of many creatives lives, give them the gift that keeps on giving all year round with a beautiful new notebook to store all their thoughts and ideas.
DesignWorks Ink Standard Issue Split Twin-Wire Bound Personal Journal, Taupe, $14
DesignWorks Ink Classic Bookbound Planner Journal, 7.5" x 10.25", Black - Bad Ideas, $20.55
A New Sketchbook
Maybe the creative in your life is more a doodler than a writer. Consider buying them a new place to house all their doodles and designs with a new sketchbook.
Strathmore 400 Series Recycled Sketch Pad, 11"14" Wire Bound, 100 Sheets, $13.54
Pens
Ever since falling in love with Poppin Pens this year, I know, I didn't think it was possible to fall in love with pens either, I feel like I've become such a pen snob! Well maybe not a snob so much as an aficionado, always on the hunt for the next great pen. Say what you want but writing with a good pen makes such a difference.
Poppin Retractable Gel Luxe Pens 4 CT, $15.99
KACO Retractable Gel ink Pens,Extra Fine Point (0.5 mm)-20 Pack,Assorted Colors (I860), $11.48.
OOLY, Yummy Yummy Scented Glitter Gel Pens, Set of 12, $10.50
The Writer's Journey - 25th Anniversary Addition
This book recently came recommended by way of a friend (and extremely talented writer might I add - no it's not me. LOL.) and so I thought it fitting to add to this year's gift guide. Apparently it's one of the books "all great writers" have in their library. This "great writer" does not yet so I will be adding it to my personal list. LOL.
The Writer's Journey - 25th Anniversary Edition: Mythic Structure for Writers 4th Edition, $19.49.
The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity
Another book that is most certainly in my own "cart," The Artist's Way has inspired countless authors and creatives. In fact, this is the very book that inspired Lauryn Evarts Bosstick of The Skinny Confidential to practice stream of consciousness writing with her three "Morning Pages," which in turn inspired me to do the same and share the practice with all of you.
The Artist's Way: 25th Anniversary Edition, $11.28
After the Rain: Gentle Reminders for Healing, Courage and Self-Love
Author of After the Rain, Alex Elle's daily affirmations and words of encouragement on her Instagram have been my saving grace this year. Her vulnerability and transparency makes her a great writer and her book a great gift this Holiday Season.
After the Rain: Gentle Reminders for Healing, Courage, and Self-Love, $16.39.
Feel it Out: The Guide to Getting in Touch with Your Goals, Your Relationships and Yourself
As creatives, we can spend a lot of time in our own heads whether it be overthinking things, strategizing on a new creative project, or just living in our various emotions. This book was on a recommended reading list for creatives that I saw recently and I thought it sounded like an incredible read and worthy addition to the creative's gift guide.
Blue Light Glasses
Truthfully this is a gift that should be on ALL gift guides this year but especially important for creatives who likely spend lots of time looking at screens. Whether working my 9-5, writing, blogging, watching YouTube videos or editing pictures, I spend a LOT of time staring at various screens but thanks to my blue light glasses my eyes don't get as strained as they may traditionally.
SOJOS Cat Eye Blue Light Blocking Glasses Hipster Metal Frame Women Eyeglasses She Young, $19.99.
SOJOS Retro Round Blue Light Blocking Glasses TR90 Computer Eyeglasses Ashley SJ9001, $19.97.
If you are a creative, or know one, then you should know that creatives LOVE supporting creatives. Giving your favorite creative an Etsy Giftcard allows them to support local, small businesses and buy a unique gift they're guaranteed to enjoy.
Pen Case and/or Gadget Holder
I am a crazy pen lady. At any given moment I have a sparkly gel pen, a black/blue ink pen and a highlighter, just carrying them around like a crazy person. That being said, I personally am going to invest in a pen case that slides over my notebook not only to keep my belongings together but together when traveling as well. I love the idea of a "gadget holder" also which allows you to organize chargers, etc.
Candles
Another gift item that could (and should) truly be on everyone's wish list this year - candles! Candles make a great gift whether the holiday season or not but there's something so special about gifting candles that remind you of the magic of this special season.
Bath & Body Works Leaves Scented Candle 14.5 Ounce 3 Wick, $27.95
Book Light
I'm well aware I may sound like a weirdo but if I had a dollar for every time I was in a car at night or on a dark plane and wanted to read but had no light (or didn't want to turn on the blaring, obnoxious overhead light) - I WOULD BE A RICH WOMAN!
Polaroid Camera
Most creatives love capturing moments and there's just something about a polaroid camera that can't be replicated with an iPhone (or Smartphone) camera. Great to have at parties and special events, a polaroid camera is guaranteed to help create lasting memories for years to come.
Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 Instant Film Camera (Brown), $119.99.
Polaroid Originals Now I-Type Instant Camera - Black (9028), $99.99
Adult Coloring Books
Sometimes you just want to mindlessly create - enter adult coloring books. While some of the coloring books seem to take a lot more concentration and focus (how on earth am I supposed to stay inside THOSE lines?!), it's still a great way to relieve some stress and create something beautiful in the process. I mean, who doesn't love coloring?!
Penguin Books Book, 1 EA, Assorted, $9.73
Cozy Throw Blanket
There's nothing better than curling up with a cup of hot tea and a warm and fuzzy blanket and reading, writing or whatever your creative outlet of choice may be. Personally, I'm so excited for cooler temps and to actually enjoy being cooped up inside (unlike during summer) so a cozy blanket is the perfect finishing touch to a snuggly day inside.
Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Barefoot in The Wild Throw Leopard One Size, $190
Laptop Stand
With working from home being the new normal for the foreseeable future, investing in a good laptop stand is sure to make your at-home working conditions a lot more bearable, not to mention comfortable. It's crazy what a difference a little stand for your computer can do! The creatives in your life likely spend a whole lot of time on the computer in which case they will be very grateful for this generous (and necessary) gift.
